What Is Bunion Deformity?

Bunion deformity is the deformity in the foot where a bony lump is formed at the base of the big toe right on the joint of the foot. This condition enlarges the big toe and creates a force which pushes it against the big toe, thus creating discomfort.
This pressure of the big toe pushes the big toe joint in the outward direction beyond normal and causes pain and deformity of bunion. In this article we will be discussing some of the causes and symptoms of this condition.
Causes Of Bunion Deformity:
Some of the causes of Bunion deformity includes:
- The basic reason for this condition to occur is that it is hereditary. The deformed genetic condition has resulted in this condition.
- The presence of some flawless in the walking mechanism can also result in this deformity.
- The shoes of tight fitting can also result in this condition.
- Any kind of injury to the foot like congenital deformities, neurological deformities, foot injuries, cerebral palsy can be one of the cause for the development of the condition.
- The presence of arthritis in the foot which has deteriorated the cartilage covering of the big toe can contribute to the development of this condition.
- The person whose occupation demand standing posture throughout the day also has a risk of the development of this condition.
Symptoms Of Bunion Deformity:
Some of the symptoms of bunion deformity includes:
- Formation of the abnormal bulges on the inner side of the base of the big toe.
- Swelling, soreness and redness will be there around the big toe in this condition.
- Formation of the foot corns and calluses can be there.
- The skin at the base of the big toe will become thick and hard.
- The movement of the big toe will become difficult.
- In severe cases, wearing of the shoes will be painful and even walking on foot will become difficult.
