Shoe odor can keep you from wearing your favorite pair of shoes. While you may wash your feet to get rid of the foot odor, shoe odor can last for a long time. Shoe odor is caused due to the bacteria, which thrives in warm and moist environment. Drying your feet before wearing your shoes and using deodorizers in your shoes can help in preventing shoe odor.
Preventing Shoe Odor:
- Always dry your feet after taking a shower. Make sure you dry the areas between the toes.
- This will keep the moisture away and prevent the shoe odor
- Use an antiperspirant which can help in limiting the sweat and controlling the odor
- Use thick cotton socks as they absorb moisture better. Synthetic socks do not absorb the moisture effectively and they may aggravate shoe odor
- Apply talcum powder in your shoes as it can help in preventing moisture
Getting Rid of Shoe Odor:
Here are a few tips you can follow to get rid of shoe odor:
- Sprinkle baking soda inside your shoes and leave them overnight. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer and it can help in removing the odor. Shake the shoes off the baking soda before wearing the shoes the next day
- You can place fabric conditioner sheets inside the shoes. They can help in absorbing the shoe odor
- Use deodorant or disinfectant inside your shoes
- Sprinkle some salt inside your shoes. Salt can absorb the moisture and prevent shoe odor
If your shoes are washable, wash them thoroughly inside-out to get rid of the odor. Always wash your socks, as the odor of socks can get onto the shoes.
