Foot fungus is also known as ‘Athlete Foot’. Foot fungus is infection of the skin and the nails and is usually found on the skin in between the toes. When the infection spreads and reaches the foot nail, it becomes thick and distorted.
Causes
The infection of foot fungus is spread by fungi called ‘tinea pedis’. This infection grows best when there is moisture in atmosphere. It is commonly found in athletes foot. Those people who keep walking on moist ground like near the swimming pool or share the bathroom are more likely to catch the disease. Foot fungus can also be spread by using the other’s shoes or sharing the towels and wash clothes. Foot fungus can spread to other parts of body such as groin and under arms also if the infected parts is scratched and same hands are touched else where also. This spreads the infection also.
Symptoms
The symptoms that can be noticed on the skin are:
- Red, thick, cracked skin that starts peeling.
- Sometimes the cracked areas may also bleed.
- There is always a sensation of itching, burning and stinging in the affected.
- In some cases, small blisters are formed. When these blisters burst a portion of area is exposed open which pain and swells rapidly.
The symptoms that are on the toe nail are:
- Color of nail changes to yellow or brown
- It becomes thick and smells badly
- Debris starts collecting below the nail
- White marks could be seen on nails
