Dry skin on foot is a common problem which is caused due to aging, improper footwear, taking long baths and household heat etc. Dry feet may become flaky and cracked, which may in turn result in pain and bleeding. Dry feet can be prevented through proper foot care through exfoliation and moisturization.
Causes of Dry Skin on Foot:
Dry skin on foot can be caused due to the following reasons:
- Improper footwear
- Aging
- Taking long baths
- Skin diseases
- Diabetes
- Psoriasis
- Heat which can dry the feet
Symptoms of Dry Skin on Foot:
The following are the symptoms of dry skin on foot:
- Itchiness
- Cracking and peeling of skin on the feet
- Flaky patches on the feet
Certain skin diseases such as fungal infection can also result in similar symptoms in addition to blistering. Hence, if you observe any blistering of feet, do consult a dermatologist.
How To Get Rid of Dry Skin on Foot:
Here are a few tips to get rid of dry feet:
- Soak your feet in warm water, and dry them. Exfoliate the skin on the foot to get rid of the hard, dead skin. After exfoliation, apply a moisturizer to your feet
- Before bedtime, moisturize your feet and wear socks to enable better absorption of the moisturizer
- Avoid shoes which rub over the skin of the feet
- Wear comfortable shoes which do not add friction
If the dry skin on foot does not improve or if there are signs of bleeding, consult your podiatrist or dermatologist for proper treatment.
