Foot pain is caused due to a variety of factors such as arthritis, foot abnormalities etc. Researchers from Cochrane have discovered that foot pain can be effectively relieved through custom made insoles or foot orthoses. This research involved about 1332 volunteers and about 11 trials.
Foot pain is very common in America, as every one person among four suffers from it. Foot pain is very common among the elderly and those suffering with arthritis. Foot pain may affect the mood, quality of life, and mobility of a person.
In this study, researchers found that custom made insoles or foot orthoses relieved pain in the following conditions of the foot:
- Arthritis
- Highly arched feet
Big toe joints
- Elderly age
According to this research, foot pain in all these conditions can be relieved through custom made insoles. Researchers observed about 1332 volunteers and held about 11 trials. After the research, they concluded the following:
- For adults suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and children suffering from juvenile idiopathic arthritis, custom foot orthoses relieved pain in about 3 months
- Adults who had foot pain because of highly arched feet and big toe joints, custom foot orthoses relieved of the pain over a period of 3 to 6 months
According to Fiona Hawke, lead researcher, custom foot orthoses can be effective for many foot conditions. However, much research is needed to know their long-term benefits and their effectiveness for other foot conditions.
