One of the all time pioneers, Leonardo Da Vinci, a painter cum engineer, considered the foot as a masterpiece of engineering. Approximately eighty percent of Americans experience the problems related to foot in their lives. Like other parts, your feet also need special care. Taking care of your feet enables you to enjoy the comfort of walking throughout your life.
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts for Healthy Foot:
Do’s:
- Consult your doctor and have at least one professional checkup per year
- Check for any cracks, sores and painful reddened spots
- Trim your toenails and don’t cut nails into the corners
- Wash your feet with warm water, not hot water
- Dry your feet well. The areas between the toes are more sensitive and more prone to infections. Keep them dry always
- Use comfortable and well-fitting foot wear
- Feet may swell later in the day, hence shop for shoes in the evening
- In case of Orthotic wearers, they need professional checkups twice a year
- Walking is the best exercise for healthy feet. Walk as much as you can, to provide a proper blood circulation to your feet
Don’ts:
- The primary point in the Don’ts section is – avoid walking barefoot. It is suggested to protect your feet even in indoor or around pools and beaches.
- Don’t trim corns and calluses with a blade or razor
- Don’t use over-the-counter medicated corn and callus removers. They can cause skin burns and other skin infections
- Don’t use the same pair of orthotics for more than 5 years
