Our foot is built up of 28 bones with multiple muscles, ligaments and tendons. It is wonderfully flexible and can readily get adapted to various surfaces. But sometimes due to various reasons foot related problems get triggered and has to be corrected.

The main purpose of orthotic devices is providing support to the foot or ankle. They can be used to thwart and check the deformities of the feet by increasing the level of comfort to the patient and providing relief. For example, the braces for ankles reduce the pain in rheumatoid arthritis.

Before going for one, one has to consult his podiatrist for the right kind of orthotic device that the foot needs. One can get these devices in any chemist’s shops or stores or else can get them customized as per individual requirements and needs. The density can be low, medium or even high.

Each orthotic device has its own importance and has to be placed at the right position to reduce the pain. A typical case of flat foot can be corrected by installing wedges in the inner side of the soles.

An orthotic device must match the technique, curves and the arch of the shoe. For sport shoes a full-length orthotic device is recommended. For regular fit shoes three quarter is suggested and for high-heeled shoes thin device are suggested. For best results it should be inserted inside sneakers.
