As summer approaches your maximum time is spent either relaxing on the beach or swimming in the pools. Most of the time summertime enjoyment results in extra wear and tear of your body. Feet are the most important but neglected part of your body. Even during summertime you tend to neglect proper care of your feet.
Here are few summertime foot care tips suggested by American Podiatric Medical Association.
- Whenever you go out don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your feet especially fronts and tops of your ankles.
- If you want to go in water then reapply sunscreen to your feet.
- After coming out from water, wash them with clean water and dry them thoroughly with clean and dry towel especially in between the toes. If you have itchy or cracked skin then apply a anti-fungal topical cream on it.
- Avoid sharing of towels to prevent the development of athletes foot or any another foot disease or infection.
- You need to take special care of your toenails. It is advised for you to consult your podiatrist in case infection or discoloration.
- To protect your ankle and toes from any kind of injuries wear appropriate footwear.
- If you are going out in the ocean then don’t forget to wear water shoes or sandals as there are chances of injury by jelly fish sting or corals.
- Even while walking on the beach wear a pair of flip-flop or your old pair of running shoes. This would protect your feet from shells, debris, spines and jagged rocks.
- Lastly enjoy the summer break. Remember, the best exercise for your feet is walking. But if you are suffering from plantar fasciitis or tendonitis then swimming is the best alternative for walking.
