Are you a diabetic patient? It is necessary for you to take a lot of care of your feet. Many of the diabetic people ignore their feet. It is recommended for you to get a regular foot examination at least twice in a year. To avoid foot injury you should go for a routine foot care schedule. Especially in cases of blood vessel or nerve damage you need to take extra care for your feet.
Here are few simple daily foot care tips which would be helpful in your foot care task.
- Examine your feet like sole, heel, toes, between the toes, top and side daily.
- With the help of lukewarm water and mild soap wash your feet daily. Remember that harsh or strong soaps can damage your skin.
- Thoroughly but gently dry your feet. Make sure that your feet are dry completely especially in between the toes. Remember that infection can develop easily in damp areas.
- After washing and drying your feet apply a little bit of moisturizer or lubricating oil. Dryness can result into cracked skin which may cause infection. Remember no to apply lotion in between your toes.
- Before trimming your nails soak your feet in lukewarm water so that the nails become softer. Cut your nails straight as curved nails are likely to grow inwards.
- Regular exercise is a must for you as it improves your feet’s blood circulation.
- Make sure that you are sitting or standing in one position for a long period of time.
- Avoid smoking as smoking reduces the blood flow to your feet.
- In case your feet are injured, avoid using antiseptic solution. Don’t use hot water bottles or heating pads.
- In case you observe any change or symptoms of infection report to the doctor immediately.
- You should never try to treat any sort of infection by home remedies or by self medications.
