Have you ever noticed your footprints? Ever wondered why your footprints have taper in the middle with a curve while leaving a normal impression of the ankle and toes?
Most of us have an arch along the inner side of the foot that leaves a gap between the ground and the foot but some people might have a higher arch than normal.
If you suspect you have a high arch foot too, you can try examining your foot in the mirror. Ask a few family members or a couple of friends to help. Observe the side profile of your foot in the mirror and your friends’ feet too. If you find your arch higher than the rest then you may be having high arch foot/feet.
Symptoms
- The symptoms of a High arch foot may primarily depend on two factors i.e the severity of your condition and the levels of your activity. Most of the people with high arch feet do not have any complains about foot pain.
- You may get corns and calluses under the bases of the first and fifth toes.
- But of course, some exceptions can be a little problems with shoe-fitting because of the high arch that claws the toes.
- Often, over-weight people also complain of pain in the arch area. Unfortunately people with high arch foot are more susceptible to ankle sprains also.
Causes
- There is no need to worry if you have a naturally high arch foot. Like some people even you might be having a normal variant.
- Otherwise you may have a high arch foot as a matter of hereditary.
- In worst cases, your high arch foot might be a signal of an underlying neurological problem.
Treatment
If there is no underlying neurological cause behind your high arched foot or if your arch is not growing taller than what it is, then you needn’t worry. You can help yourself with-
- Foot orthotics or insoles to support and protect the foot and relieve pressure areas.
- Footwear that provides proper arch support.
- Corn or Callus pads

High arches MAY sometimes create problems, but somehow very flawed studies are thinking flat arches or high arches cause troubles without really inspecting the real causes of problems which are not arches themselves, but rather the operation of the foot. This ‘normal’ arch thing keeps spreading around like major wildfires. There IS no such thing as a ‘normal’ arch-it should be called ‘medium’ arches. And contrary to popular beliefs, nobody carries so called ‘normal’ toes! Nobody’s toes are actually normal. Everyone has different toes of different shape-straight, curled, wavy, tilted, hypermobile toes, etcetera. Better studies and researches should be done regarding feet.

High arches THEMSELVES are not trouble, rather it’s the behavior through which the foot functions or gets handled. And high arches are QUITE oftentimes loved/liked by the person who has high arched feet, and in fact high arches are much more common than the foot study may indicate/actually pinpoint-actual numbers of US citizens in the US with high arches is somewhere between 80-140 million. Ballet dancers are very loving towards high arches, these people believe it’s better for their foot rather than low arch. High arches are beneficial and positive if whosoever has the high arches shall take proper care of their own feet and give the proper treatment.
